I am the creator and evangelist for the Fireworks firewall kernel modules,
embedded system components, and toolkit which have been incorporated into
a number of AT&T, Lucent, and Alcatel-Lucent products. Fireworks implements the zone-based security policy design
used by the award-winning Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall and is described
in this paper: Fireworks - Achieving Low Cost of Ownership for an Embeddable Firewall Component
I have patents in the areas of XML representations and protocols for extensible device management, technologies for securing 3G (GPRS) UMTS networks, techniques for persistent address mappings for dynamically assigned network address translation, coordination of the tunneled and untunneled IP sessions in a multi-tier network, and innovations in malware detection.
I was a founding member of the Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall product team and have participated in the development of a varity of network devices, including the AT&T Secure SmartHUB, the PacketStar Access Router, the PathStar Access Server (an advanced voice/data switch), the AT&T StarLAN Network Operating System(NOS), the AT&T PassageWay collaborative communications products, the PenPoint-based AT&T Legend PhoneWriter, and SNMP network management agents and managers for a variety of devices and computing platforms.
I work closely with several Alcatel-Lucent product units and directly with our 3G wireless customers to create new product features and security solution innovations.
